On the Thursday, 25 February 2021, BDA held its WA Franchise Breakfast. Our fantastic panel shared some great insights into the impacts of COVID-19 on the franchising industry and BDA was able to share the latest legislative changes to the Franchising Code of Conduct. The event was a great success, with friends and colleagues in the franchising sector networking and enjoying a delicious breakfast hosted by Fraser Suites in the Perth CBD.

He has over 20 years financial services industry experience, including regional banking management, retail and commercial lending, private banking, asset finance, debt management, and state government roles. He’s a passionate advocate for client needs and of the importance of relationships, both personal and professional.


Ryan Potts
WA Senior Area Manager, The Cheesecake Shop (Cheesecake logo))
Ryan has been working with The Cheesecake Shop WA since 2008, he started as Franchise Business Coach where he won the 2014 FCA WA Field Manager of the Year award. He moved on to be the National Quality Assurance Auditor. He is now the Senior Area Manager responsible for 26 stores across WA.
Ryan prides himself of building profit, trust, and compliance with everyone in his network. With a focus on recruiting reliable Franchisees and ongoing training, the current average tenure for a Cheesecake Shop Franchisee in WA is 8 years.


Emily Slevin
WA Master Franchisee, Aussie Pooch Mobile
Emily Slevin has been a franchisee with Aussie Pooch Mobile for almost 11 years and most recently also been the WA Master Franchisee since 2018. Initial business success as a franchisee saw her build and sell 7 Franchises and since taking on the Master business, she has grown the region from 16 Franchisees and operators to 28 Franchisees, contractors, and staff in 3 years, with further growth expected in 2021.
Emily is passionate about the Aussie Pooch brand and offering the highest level of support to help her franchisees and the Aussie Pooch brand thrive


Jeremy O’Neill
WA State Operations Manager, Zambrero
Jeremy has over 8 years of operational management experience across a range of industries but within the FMCG & QSR market. He is currently employed as State Operations Manager for Zambrero WA, a a Mexican QSR franchise business determined to make a difference through its Plate 4 Plate initiative.
Jeremy has completed a Double Bachelor Degree Commerce & Science at the University of Western Australia, specializing in Management, Entrepreneurship and Human Resources.

I have worked across a number of key industry sectors including but not limited to: Retail, Shipping and Hospitality. It all started as a 13 year old working for McDonald’s Australia in one of Western Australia’s first restaurants – Cinema City. Throughout my 18 years with Macca’s, I was privileged to work alongside some outstanding people, including Charlie Bell and Peter Ritchie. Peter Ritchie is a former Chairman and CEO of McDonalds Australia. Charlie Bell was also a CEO of McDonald’s Australia who later became the CEO of McDonald’s International based in Chicago, USA.
Over the years I have assisted many businesses grow and there is nothing more satisfying than seeing businesses become more profitable and better equipped for the journey ahead.

E-Blast: The Jim’s Group National Franchise Training held in BDA’s Office due to COVID-19
Due to the COVID-19 barriers, Jim’s Group led by Divisional Franchisor Pest Control, Manie Van Vuuruen, held their first National Training Franchisee Induction Program in BDA’s Perth Conference and Training Room.
The Jim’s group, headquartered in Mooroolbark, Victoria is a new Franchisee for Jim’s Dog Wash and and Jim’s Pest Control. This company enjoyed 3 days of intensive training in Perth’s BDA offices from 7th-9th December 2020.
Jim’s Divisional Franchisor – Pest Control, Manie Van Vuuren, said, “it was wonderful to be able to host the training in WA for the three-days intensive induction training, for what we would normally have to fly to Melbourne and undertake. With all the issues surrounding COVID-19, it was really important to us to be able to get our new franchisees inducted and commencing their businesses prior to the Christmas break. This has happened with the assistance of Mark and his team”.
We really appreciate the gratitude expressed by the Jim’s Group towards BDA. It was also an honor for us to be able to provide training facilities for our clients. We are definitely looking forward for more working opportunities in the future.
