Mark Fernandez

Mark brings over 25 years of senior management experience in franchising and strategic thinking the BDA team. This valuable experience ranges across many business models including multi international companies and local Western Australian systems.

Mark has been influential across a number of key industry sectors, including Retail, Manufacturing, Transportation, Childcare, Shipping and Hospitality.

As a growth strategist, Mark specialises in delivering solutions that perhaps haven’t been considered or given enough attention to. He brings clarity in determining the way forward and as a natural problem solver, he takes a keen interest in teaching clients how to focus on solutions rather than getting caught up in the many day to day challenges that they face. His passion lies ininstilling of a strong culture of best practice and service excellence with all his clients and stakeholders.

Mark is a Lean and 6 Sigma Practitioner and an Accredited Consultant/Facilitator of DISC Advanced Psychometrics.

Hon PAUL PAPALIA CSC MLA

Paul was born in Bunbury and raised in the small south west town of Burekup.

He entered the Royal Australian Navy in 1978 and served in the military for 26 years eventually qualifying as a Navy Clearance Diver, serving in the counter terrorist squadron of the Special Air Service Regiment and deployed on operations to Iraq on two occasions.

In the course of his military career Paul commanded a Clearance Diving Team, a navy patrol boat and the Navy’s submarine escape and rescue service. He was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross and Commendations from both the Land and Maritime Commanders before leaving the service in early 2004.

Paul was elected to the seat of Peel in February 2007, then elected to the new seat of Warnbro in September 2008 and re-elected to that seat in 2013 and 2017.

Paul served in the Shadow Ministry after WA Labor lost office in 2008 as Shadow Minister for Tourism, Corrective Services and Defence Issues.

Rob has worked in the Food & Beverage Industry for over 20 years. Rob has worked with a variety of big brands such as Coles, Coca-Cola, Mars and McDonalds as well as Mrs Mac's prior to joining Jesters in January of 2016 in mainly Sales & Marketing roles.

Rob is big on having the best 'Team' and is passionate about delivering positive mutual outcomes for all stakeholders.

Dean McAskil

Dean has nearly 30 years' experience in shopping centre and retail property management, marketing and the leasing industry in Western Australia and Australia.

Starting as an onsite hands-on Shopping Centre Manager, by the year 2000 Dean was the Director Retail Property Services for Knight Frank, responsible for the management, marketing and leasing of what was the largest shopping centre portfolio that has possibly ever existed in Western Australia. This role included regional and sub-regional shopping centres such as Lakeside Joondalup, Belmont Forum and Midland Gate, as well as more than 30 neighbourhood convenience centres. Dean was responsible for reporting to large corporate institutional owners, as well as many private investors. In that position he managed more than 50 professional staff and approximately 100 technical and contract staff, this often included more than 10 direct reports.

At the beginning of the 2000's Dean started his own consultancy practice providing advice to retail property users, including major brands like RAC, Zamels Jewellers and Price Attack

Douja Elhajj

Douja Elhajj is the Principal Mediator at Insight Dispute Resolution (IDR). She has post-graduate qualifications both locally and internationally, in Mediation and Negotiation. Douja has collectively over 15 years experience as a mediator, with a background in human behavioural therapy, psychology and science qualifications.

Douja specialises in mediation involving complex legal and interpersonal matters. Her philosophy is to avoid a “quick fix” and to find more sustainable options to improve relationships, whether working, familial, interpersonal or commercial.

Douja believes that “by understanding ourselves, how we relate to others, and our motivations; we can break down barriers of misunderstanding and the possibility of conflict, to be able to move forward”.

Gavin is the General Manager of Bedshed Franchising. In 2008 Gavin returned to Perth to join Bedshed and prior to that held a senior executive position with Freedom Furniture as Retail Operations Manager. This position involved managing both company owned and franchise stores along with substantial distribution centres and a logistics network to support both. Gavin is a career retailer with a strong belief in values based leadership.

Bedshed Franchising commenced operations in 1980 and franchising commenced shortly afterwards in 1982. Bedshed has 34 stores nationally and operates in the specialist bedding retail space. Bedshed is based in Perth and has 15 WA stores.

With over 20 years’ experience in both the Hospitality and Franchise industry, Gerard is a strong believer in offering the customer a great product as well as a long lasting customer service experience.

Having held various positions as an employee as well as a Franchisee, Gerard is always mindful that the tenants of the company needs to be instilled in its employees and owners for the success of the business. With adequate support and training it’s a winning scenario for both parties.

Manie bought into the Jim’s Franchise group as Regional Franchisor in 2015 and expanded his business to own Jim’s Building Inspections & Jim’s Termite & Pest Control Western Australia wide.

Manie is equipped with years of Project Management and small business management experience and qualifications. He also holds an MBA and a long list of leadership and marketing qualifications and experience that enable him to develop his regional franchise businesses.

Manie’s decision to buy into the Jim’s group was based on the fact that his research showed a strong and well-known brand, a CEO that is hands-on and the strong diversity the group offered with a high success rate.

Manie explained how there is nearly 4000 franchisees in this group and when he reaches out to Jim, he gets him on the phone instantaneously. Jim even responds back to him personally, 10pm at night. Jim’s personal involvement in his business is the reason for his great success. Manie said he mostly aim to surround himself with successful and positive people like Jim.

Alicia Mule

Alicia Mule grew up in a range of hospitality outlets, from fruit and veggie shops and lunch bars to restaurants, cafes and formal function venues.

It was from this experience that her parents, Robert and Angie Mule, started the Aroma Café franchise almost 20 years ago in 1996.

Some of Alicia’s first memories are of their inner city cafes in the 80s. Standing on a milk crate to help her mother garnish dishes and spending time with the other surrounding city retailers learning their trades of floristry, hairdressing and fashion.

Alicia studied Media and Communications at Murdoch University and gained voluntary work experience in all areas from accounts to the news room at Perth’s RTRFM, 96FM and 6PR. She eventually became the country’s youngest ever Station Manager of youth community radio station Groove 1071.7FM in 2003 and got to entertain her love of music, media and working with young people.

Rod Sinclair has been a McDonald's Licensee for 12 years and manages over 450 staff across 4 sites in the Rockingham area. Rod is a board member of the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and has been Chairman for the ball the last 4 years, raising over 3 million dollars for RMHC.

Rod is passionate about adventure based fund raising, hiking to base camp with his son Kaleb (14) in 2017 and now preparing to complete the Cape to Cape, Rotto Swim and Great Wall Trek for RMHC by mid 2019.

Rod has been a member of the Entrepreneurs Organisation since 2005 and is a Global Forum Expert 'teaching people how to lead leaders'. Rod has also created a YouTube Channel "Forum Bites" where he shares what has and hasn't worked, when it comes to Leading Leaders in Business or Volunteer Organisations.
